Hey guys, I decided to Crossfire my current 7870 (Sapphire GHz edition @1050/1250 mhz) with another Gigabyte 7870 (1100/1200 Mhz). I reinstalled CCC drivers and turned on the CrossfireX option under the Performance tab. I ran Uniengine Valley benchmark and my score went from 31FPS to 38 FPS. Something didn't seem right, so I open up GPU-Z and see that my second card (Gigabyte) is running at 1x.

Specs
Asus Sabertooth 990FX
AMD Phenom II 1075T @ 3.4 ghz
Corsair HX 750 PSU
Gigabyte HD7870 2GB
Sapphire HD7870 Ghz edition 2GB

This would be my first time attempting at running a crossfire setup. I put my second card in the PCIEX16_3 http:// as an attempt to get additional air flow room.

Here is what my GPU-Z shows for both cards.

I've tried running the rendering test on GPU-Z the speed stays at 1x.

Slot 2 is the black which is 4x, you don't want slot 2. You want to be in the light brown slots, 1 and 3. It's showing as x1 because you are at 0% load. See the blue question mark next to it? You can do a render test and should go to full speed.

Yea, I've done the render test. The only thing that change is that the first GPU goes from PCI 1.1 to 2.0. The second card remains the same, at 1x. By the way, it should be going to 16x, this board runs dual 16x/16x. I've just swapped both cards to opposite spots, still same problem. I am going to try now to put the second card in slot 2 if I can, and see what happens with that.
Thanks for the responses guys.

EDIT: How long do I really need to wait on that render test? I waited about 30 secs despite it indicating 'a few seconds'. I've also ran Valley benchmark while and it still indicated a 1x speed on GPU-Z.

Getting an error from that link. If so, I'll test on 13.4 now.

UPDATE: Wow, turns out you're right! I should have known better than to go straight to the beta driver when having a new set up. I just wanted to reap the extra crossfire benefits (if any) from the 13.8. Anyways, thanks for the quick help guys.

Hmmm, the site doesn't like that long link. Here is another at amd.com:
http://support.amd.com/us/kbarticles/Pages/AMDCatalyst13-8WINBetaDriver.aspx

And the text:

Known Issues of The AMD Catalyst 13.8 Beta2 Driver for Windows:
•CrossFire configurations (when used in combination with Overdrive) can result in the secondary GPU usage running at 99%
•Enabling CrossFire can result in the PCI-e bus speed for the secondary GPU being reported as x1
•Bioshock Infinite: New DLC can cause system hangs with Frame Pacing enabled – disable frame pacing for this title to resolve
