Will any LGA 1155 CPU work in an LGA 1155 socket

I've never replaced the CPU in a desktop before. Lately I've been thinking of upgrading to a faster processor. The reason I want to replace my CPU was to improve my video gaming experience.

I have an Intel Pentium G640 in an LGA 1155 socket. Will any CPU that fits in an LGA 1155 socket be an acceptable replacement?

What other requirements should I be looking for when upgrading my CPU?

Thank you all for your time.

Yes, if the CPU is made for that socket then it will fit in that socket. The processor you should get is the i5-3570K unless you want to get an i7-3770K (if you need the extra power). Something like the i5-3570K could handle a game like Skyrim, but not something next gen. You would want to buy a graphics card (Like the Nvidia GTX 760) and then you might need a more powerful power supply unit.

Yup, thats why the socket system exists. You can drop any LGA1155 chip you want into it.
TDP may be a factor, the Pentiums typically run at much lower heat output. So the heatsink you have may be insufficient for the new chip. Though when you buy the new chip you get a new cooler, so its a moot point.
