I really appreciate your help and will honor any affiliate code if I prefer your build (or even a part of it).

No OS, I work at an IT shop we have Win 7 or whatever I want really.
No HD, recently bought one, would just transfer that one. That opens up some possibilities too.

I'm pretty much set on a Intel Core I5-3570 Ivy Bridge 3.4GHz. I read that the difference between an i5 and i7 is not big enough to justify the extra spending.

Thank you ahead of time!

No monitor
No keyboard/mouse etc

If you are a heavy Video encoder go with a AMD FX8350 CPU which is comparable to an i7 3770k performance at multi threaded applications like video encoding, 3D modelling etc at a much lower price.

Interesting.... I actually probably do more gaming then video encoding. But I would like to get back into that hobby.

I really appreciate your input :) I will definitely take a look at the FX 8350. I typically use Sony Vegas, is there any benchmarks for it?

Please help guys.

I'm finding this DIY stuff very interesting. But I'm a bit overloaded with all the information.

So far I got

1) Make sure Mobo socket matches, LGA 1155 in my case.
2) Make sure memory matches. Depends on mobo.
3) PSU is big enough for everything you want to run. And matches form factor
4) form factor matches case + mobo
5) video card + mobo match, which is fairly easy
6) HDs are fairly universal so are dvd players

I'm sure I'm missing a bunch
