ping issues in windows 8..

can someone tell me how to ping a computer with homegroup in windows 7 from a windows 8 computer.

win8 connects to homegroup but doesn't ping with win7.

on pinging the message is displayed ----

"host is unreachable".

I want to send data b/w 2 systems using socket programming but even on joining homegroup, the 2 computers aren't pinging.
