Difference between Actic Silver products silver 5, alumina, ceramique 2?

Hi Guys,

Building a new test bench rig and would like to know what the differences are between the three types of Artic Silver products? I tried to search for the answer but couldn't find the exact answer.

Will be using this for my H110 water cooling for my CPU.

Oh nothing wrong with it, but since I have 3 other rigs and thinking of going water cool for the MB(water cooling rdy from Asus Maximus VI formula Mobo) GPU (MSI 670 PE) So might as well buy some paste for the cooling equipment and also repaste all my old fans since I also use stock.

So what should I use for CPU fan? GPU fan and maybe even ram heat sink?
 
Arctic Silver 5 is electrically capacitive - it's not safe to get all over circuitry. It still works good, but because of the long burn-in time (200 hours) to reach maximum efficiency (which makes 1-5C difference) and the previously listed reason, a lot of people consider it obsolete. Most thermal compounds these days are electrically safe, and have no cure time.

Anyway, Arctic Silver Alumina is based on Aluminum Oxide (the mainstay of most thermal compounds these days) and Arctic Silver Ceramique is Zinc Oxide based. Arctic Silver 5 is poly-synthetic silver based.

You'd be hard pressed to find an appreciable difference between the three products.

I usually recommend Arctic Cooling MX-4.

Thanks for the advice guys.

I am actually getting ready to convert my system to Water cooling and I would need a good amount of paste for my CPU, GPU blocks.

When you say spending more money, I assume it is 10 to 20 dollars more right? If my water cooling mods are going to cost me 500 to 800 dollars, another 10 to 20 won't make much difference.

I guess products are pretty completive now, so the difference would be 1-4C So I guess I would pick something that is easy to work with and post no danger after use.
