Hello,
First of all, a little background: I am renting a small room in a house for the semester. The landlord also lives in the house. He keeps the router locked up in his room. My rent includes access to WIFI internet but I have been having problems..

He has set up a cisco - guest account. It has a password, but it doesn't ask for it when I connect to the internet. Instead, it will redirect my browser to a screen prompting me to put the password in. Every couple of days this will reset and have me enter the password again.

I am using a Netgear WNDA4100 USB adapter on my desktop. There is no other network device; my pc never had an internal network card.

I continuously have a strong signal but within about 2-5 minutes of accessing the network my internet will drop to about < 1Mbps. If I unplug and plug back in my WNDA4100 it will work for about 2 minutes again before dropping.

I turned on windows firewall (had had it off for a few months prior) and it actually worked fine for about 20 minutes with ~ 30Mbps download speed before spotting out.

If i surf the web for a bit, even while it has really slow speeds, it will go back to the normal 30Mbps for maybe 30 seconds before cutting out again. Even still, about 85% of the time it is extremely slow.

The weird thing is on Monday i set up my computer for the first time here. I had an online class that requires you to stream a webcam using Adobe Connect. During that entire 3 hour class my internet did not drop and I had not received any disruptions whatsoever for the rest of the night. I did not change anything between monday night and tuesday morning...It goes without saying but i absolutely need this for my next online class haha

what would be a cause of this?

Thanks!!
