I just recently cleaned my PC with canned air since i noticed my CPU was running around 90 degrees Celsius while gaming and i noticed that my heatsink/fan was a bit loose so i pulled it off, applied thermal paste and booted it back up. But now the CPU is booting up straight to 98 Celsius and shutting off as soon as any stress is put onto it.

What's my best option to try to trouble shoot? Get another heatsink for it and then try it that way?

CPU is i5 2500k
heatsink is stock e97378-001

The push pins on the stock cooler may not be holding as tight as a new one would, id consider a new heatsink even if its a cheap CM tx3 or zalman cnps 5x, unless ur looking to OC or get good temps while under load. the two cooler i mentioned go for $15-20.

Also u could make sure u applied the correct amount of thermalpaste, and if the cooler is loose after reapplying good chance it wont get better.

I would double check that your heatsink is seated properly and you applied heatsink compound the right way.

I would remove the HS again, clean off both the CPU and heatsink, reapply thermal paste in a thin line from top to bottom, then attach the heatsink again.
