I have overclocked my 3570k in BIOS (on Sabertooth Z77 MOBO) to about 4.2 GHz by enabling X.M.P. By "overclock" all I did is say that if it wanted to throttle up to 4.2GHz, it could, but it is not always at that frequency. My first question is, would it raise the idle temps by much if i had it OC'd at 4.2GHz constantly? Secondly, is it worth it to do this? I have liquid cooling so keeping temps down right now is no problem.

Solution
Yes, your idle temps will increase.

To answer the second question, it depends, but most of the time it's no. Sometimes Windows power schemes can underestimate your required CPU usage for a certain task. To fix this you can select or customize a high performance scheme or set the OC in the BIOS. More often than not, this not a problem people encounter, so you probably won't need to do this. Leave C-States etc. and Select high performance. Your CPU should throttle accordingly saving power and better thermal control.
