  1. Might just simply want to check the motherboards compatibility as far as Wattage. It may have the right socket but not support the Watts needed for the Duo Core to work if it does then I don't see why you could not upgrade.

I'd say your chances of the swap working are pretty good. The Turion was an option for your laptop, and I've even come across reviews with Turion 64 X2's in particular.

P.S. This is the review I came across with an Inspiron 1501 and a Turion 64 X2: http://www.laptopmag.com/review/laptops/dell-inspiron-1501.aspx

I don't see why that should be an issue the bios should pick up on the CPU. Pretty sure you'll be fine. :)
  7. I upgraded my two Inspiron 1501 laptops earlier this year from Semprons to Turion 64 X2 TL-56 processors. Cost a whole $15 for both after shipping and taxes (ebay) lol... Typing this on one of them right now! :)

Ps. Make sure you clean them off and put some new heatsink compound on them. Really does make a difference. These puppies get hot.
  8. Yeah, I have a Dell Latitude D531 (basically a business-class version of the same laptop) that I upgraded from a single core Sempron to a Turion 64 X2 TL-60. Made a whole world of difference, and was just a drop-in upgrade. No BIOS tweaking needed.
