So I don't know what the heck happened but after reinstalling my windows os i updated my onboard audio and graphics drivers and installed realtek high def audio which is what I had before my sound ceases to work. I have a front and rear audio port and neither work. Any ideas as to why this is happening?

Solution
Try installing the Intel INF Drivers for 3/4/5 Chipsets. I'm guessing that your analog audio drivers are included here. Otherwise, you may want to go directly to Realtek and try the drivers for the ALC888 chipset.

Take a look at your motherboard. Do you have anything connected to JSPD1 (just to the right of your floppy connection port)? That is your digital audio connection.

It's showing speakers which is whited out and I cannot enable it, the one that is enabled and set as default is the digital output. Ill try to send a picture

What motherboard do you have in your system and how are your speakers connected?

I would think that if you had drivers for both the digital output as well as the analog outputs, you have two tabs in your Realtek HD Audio Manager. Are you sure you installed all the necessary drivers for your motherboard?

I have a msi ms 7529 motherboard. I have no clue what other drivers I would need being that I don't believe I have a digital output port. Through realtek I can change some of its settings which will then change what I see in my playback options however I still can't get it to work.

Okay so i just updated my INF driver along with a clean install of the alc888 chipset from realtek>> I hope by this you meant this driver. I also checked my motherboard and saw that there is nothing going into the jspd1 peripheral not to my surprise. Thanks btw for the responese

Update: I checked "disable front panel detection" in the realtek settings and my playback options gui changed. It's now saying my speakers(rear panel) is working but I plugged in my speakers and it didn't work. Another thing that's weird is realtek audio manager is now lighting up that my green and pink front panel is working... which its not.
