I have an LG smart TV and I've worked out how to stream videos and files stored on my computer to the tv, but I can't work out how to simply make the tv a monitor for my laptop. I know smart TV has internet but the streaming never works for some reason.

Solution
Once connected (VGA or HDMI) you need to output your laptop screen. This is usually done with the Function keys (on Dell laptops it's "Function key and F8 key together). Check your laptop manual on how to do that for your model.

The other option is to right-click your desktop (assuming Windows 7) and go to 'Personalize' > 'Display' > 'Connect to a Projector'. Make sure you select 'DUPLICATE'. Selecting 'Projector Only' may make it difficult to return back to normal if your TV does not display the image ;)

Can you share hpu you managed to to stream the content from your lap top to the LG smart TV? That's exactly what I am trying to do.

FYI: making the TV your laptop monitor is fairly easy. Depending on which lap top you use (Mac Or PC) you will probably need and Micro Display Port to HDMI (mac) or a USB 2.0 to DVI/VGA/HDMI graphic converter (PC). This is, assuming your laptop does not have an HDMI port: http://www.ebay.com/itm/USB-2-0-to-DVI-VGA-HDMI-Multi-Display-Dual-Monitor-Graphics-Converter-Adapter-/360704051901?pt=US_Monitor_Power_Supplies&hash=item53fba30abd

Plug in the adapter to a USB port and connect your HDMI cable to the adapter and the TV. Then all you need to do is change your channel input source in your TV Input Setting list. It's just like connecting game console where you just need to change the source of your video signal.

Hi mate, I presume you want to know how to project TV from your laptop to your LG TV, I would love to know how to do it too, but nobody ever gives you a straight answer. For the benefit of both of us, WE DONT WANT CABLES ALL OVER THE PLACE, can anyone give me a straight answer, no HDMI, or USB just wireless please, please.

I also want to stream my videos on my LG smart tv. Looking for a wireless solution. What I basically searching is, I watch movies from internet without downloading with my tv. For a certain amount of time later it gives an error as insufficent memory. So I figured out maybe I can watch them from my browser on my laptop and stream them on my tv. Any idea how to do it?

Ples Media player. at least for Mac OS X. i presume it works on windows as well, install on you computer and set the folder with shows to share..

go to you tv inputs and select DNLA, or go to your lg apps and open media link or something like it (i have mine in portuguese) a 3d cube as icon. and you ready to go.

the second option is much more user friendly.

enjoy
