Hi guys,

My system (below) is almost complete. Need to order DVD drive today.

I want a dvd burner than can burn HD DVDs. I have a camcorder that shoots 1080p video, and I need to make HD DVDs. Do I need to buy a blu ray burner like
http://www.amazon.com/LG-Electronics-Internal-Rewriter-...
or a regular DVD burner like the following will be sufficiant:
http://www.amazon.com/Liteon-iHAS324-DVD-RW-Optical-Dri...

Can one burn 1080p HD on regular DVDs or does it have to be blu ray disks?
My budget is between $20 - $80.

Please provide as much information as you can. Thanks!

You can put whatever you want to on a DVD. The problem will be that a standard dvd player only has component cables, which only support up to 480P for the most part, and the available space. You'll need to watch it on someting with hdmi in order to view it in HD. Also, you won't get as much runtime on a DVD as a bluray.

Thanks Wanderer.

I have a PS3 that is connected to my TV (1080p res), via an HDMI cable. So if I take a movie file (recorded in 1080p format) out of my camcorder and use any internal DVD burner on my PC, the DVD disk that is created will play at 1080p when I stick in my PS3? If that is the case, then is the advantage of bluray only capacity?

Yeah bluray vs DVD is only a capacity difference. PS3s can read many different types of video files so you won't have to go through all the work to make it play on a standard dvd player. I usually just copy my video files to a flash drive to play on a ps3.

you can write 1080p HD movies to a dvd but make sure that the file will be able to fit onto a dvd because they can get pretty big.
