I have been deciding for awhile to get the ASRock Z87 Extreme6 motherboard.

And for the life of me i can't seem to understand what they are talking about in the expansion slot.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157371

PCI Express 3.0 x16 :
3 (PCIE2/PCIE4/PCIE5: single at x16 (PCIE2); dual at x8 (PCIE2) / x8 (PCIE4); triple at x8 (PCIE2) / x4 (PCIE4) / x4 (PCIE5))

Can someone kindly explain to me the meaning of it.

They clearly said PCI Express 3.0 X16 , so why is there PCIE2 , PCIE4 & PCIE5 ?

Solution
There are 3 x PCIe 3.0 x16 slots, however if you put two video cards and run them in CrossFireX or 3 video cards in 3-Way CrossFireX, the PCIe slots will run at x8, this should not affect performance much, because the PCIe slot has a larger bandwidth than the video card. But if it is an issue there are motherboards with two PCIe x16 slots that support two CrossFireX video cards at x16 speeds.

There is also a PCIe x1 slot suitable for a sound card or TV tuner card.

Threre is also two PCI slots, also suitable for sound card or TV tuner card. Note, one of them would not be usable if you had a double wide video card in the middle PCIe slot.

I think your counting from the wrong end.

From the ASRock web site:
3 x PCI Express 3.0 x16 slots (PCIE2/PCIE3/PCIE4: single at x16 (PCIE2); dual at x8 (PCIE2) / x8 (PCIE3); triple at x8 (PCIE2) / x4 (PCIE3) / x4 (PCIE4))

Note: PCIE3 and PCIE4 do run at x4, put it in PCIE2 and it should run at the full x16

My mistake, what I said was wrong, check the BIOS to see if it defaulted to the lower speed. You should be getting the full x16

Are you running anything in the PCIE2 slot?

It is possible, but doubtful, PCI Express 3.0 cards have been out for quite a while. You never said, what video card is it?

What power supply do you have?

If you installed a new motherboard did you do a fresh install of Windows?

Did you install the drivers for the new motherboard?

I think I've tracked down the problem... I installed my old Radeon 6450 and it shows 16x in CPU Z.

I will reinstall now the gtx 650 ti boost and remove the drivers and see what CPU z will show
