Overheating causing PC to shut down?

I recently changed my HD 6450 for an HD 7950 Vapor-x, and strange things started to happen...

-First of all, CPU tempeture rised from 35º at idle to 42º(changing the cpu cooler from auto mode to 100% stable at the time, i mean 35º with auto, 42º with 100%)
-Computer started to shut down after or at the start of my gaming session. For example, i´m playing moh warfighter max settings without any problem or freeze, and suddenly PC turns off, and i must stop the psu some seconds in order to restart the computer too(mb still has power, so psu isnt the problem, cause it keeps working). This happens whenever it does, i mean, it doesnt follow a pattern such as happenning always in the same part of the game. Also when starting planetside 2, game loads normally and then 1 or 2 minutes later, the PC shuts down.

My question is, could this be caused by a processor overheat? New GPU never tresspasses the 65º degree barrier, which is good for a gpu, so the problem must be the cpu. I´m using the stock cooler, with an akasa thermal compound bought by me. Fan blades are cleaned by me every month, so dust is not the cause. My PSU is a LC Power 650W with 80+ Bronze, so i think that´s not the problem.

Shall i buy a new cooler? Thanks for your atention:)

(PD: Sorry for bad english, i´m not native =P)

Solution
While 67 degrees is a bit high it well below the threshold 80 limit where the CPU will shut itself off. So your issue is not CPU related. With PSUs numbers can really lie and it always worth investigating the quality of the unit. Your new GPU draws quite a bit more power then you old one. Which means a low quality PSU will begin to fail. You have 2 other options

1. replace the new gpu with the old one. If problem goes away then it's likely the power supply

2. replace the power supply with a known high quality unit. (Antec, Corsair, Seasonic, Rosewill, CoolerMaster) and see if the problem continues. If the problem goes away then you know it's the power supply.
I would first start by downloading Prime95 and running a CPU stress test. If the computer doesn't shut down it's not a CPU heating issue.

Since it seems like your problems only occur during gaming I suspect your power supply. If you can swap it out and run a test.

Hello,
I know this is a long time ago for you. But I am getting the same issues with my new PC

Can you confirm wether it was your PSU or if it was an overheating issue. This would really help me out fixing my pc.

I just ran into another problem though. My PC overheated yesterday and since today I cant start my pc anymore, The only thing that happens is a light turning on on my GPU ^^

Well, many things may have occurred there mate, are you sure it overheated? Maybe it was just an electrical failure or so (the just is relative tho, your mb/cpu may have died in the process if you really can´t turn it on after a day :/ ). If I were you I would ask someone if he can lend you an exchange components to check out what's wrong with your pc.
Hope it comes back to life again :)
