Hi guys,
I have a very strange problem with my PC.
It's a selfbuild and has been working quite happily for the last three years (25/08/13 which means stuff is just out of warranty!). I last used it on Saturday morning, everything was fine, and shut it down before leaving for the weekend. I came back on Tuesday night, powered it up, and it then rebooted itself a few minutes after reaching the Windows screen. After that, it then continued to reboot itself at an exponentially quicker rate (so first reboot after 4 mins, next 2 etc. more or less) until it was rebooting itself within seconds of powering up.
It then got to a point where it wouldn't boot at all. After leaving it a while I managed to boot it up again and got a POST message about overheating before it shut down. I then dismantled the PC, cleaned everything out, took off the heatsink, cleaned it up, added new paste, then rebuilt the machine. Exactly the same problem.
I then took the parts out of the case and breadboarded it. Still the same issue. Resetting the CMOS has had similarly no effect. I've tried booting it with minimal components and yet the problem is always the same.
There have been no hardware changes in years, no major software updates, I haven't flashed the BIOS or anything else, and I'm totally stumped as to what's wrong. I've gone through all the usual motions and nothing is helping.
Can anyone offer any advice?
Thanks in advance.
