my i5 4670k is idling @ 58-59 'C

I'm running it at 4.0 ghz with a cpu cooler a little better than the stock one (idk what model but its thermal take)(fan cooler) is this a normal temperature?

Most definetly go and get some thermal compound and when applying it make sure that you do so in a very thin layer. While your at it if your case has a spot for another fan then you can pick one up and have two in and two out for better air flow.

ok so i kind of figured those numbers were too high and the fan is sitting right I didn't have any thermal paste so I took the tape that came with my stock cpu fan and rubbed that on it. Plus it still had a tiny bit left from when i took it off my old build. (i don't have any thermal paste to use but if you guys suggest me too i can run down and get some today) I know i sound like an idiot but i was just wondering how bad of a situation it is...

well I will buy some thermal compound but could i hold off on buying a fan because i was going to save up for like a month to get the h80i cooler (i have a mid sized case so tight fit)

do you think adding the h80i on the top front port of my case as an intake would be a problem? maybe i could get another outtake fan so im 2 for 3

i have an azza solaris case, it has 2 fan ports on top (120-140 i believe), 1 intake from the front, 2 fan ports on the side (1 being used for intake), and 1 outtake being used on the back. I have an MSI z87-g45 mobo, a GTX 770 windforce 2gb VRAM, 8 gb for RAM DDR3 1333, and a PC Power 950 watt 80+ silver PSU.

Generally when someone gets one of those closed loop coolers they put it at the rear fan opening and remove the fan that is there. So if you want to do that you can remove the fan in the rear and place it at another spot in your case since the H80i will come with two fans. That way you won't have to buy another fan.

No, the fan blowing through the radiator is going to control the temp of the CPU not the inside air of the case. With an air cooler it's different , your using the inside air to blow through the fins to dissipate the heat. With a radiator your cooling the liquid inside the closed loop and that liquid is absorbing the heat from the CPU and dissipating it through the radiator.

just wanted to say thanks, i got my cpu to idle at like 46-49C. I was also wondering (because my cpu is stocked @ 3.4ghz) why is it running @ 4.0ghz? I went into bios to turn it down but when i did that it also turned dow the frequency of my ram from 1333 to like 12-ish.
Do you think running at a cpu frequency of 4.0 ghz like this is ok? without having a better hsf settup for overclocking?
