I have a dual monitor setup right now, 2 21.5 asus monitors (http://www.amazon.com/VS228H-P-22-Inch-Full-HD-LED-Lit-Monitor/dp/B005BZNDOO/ref=sr_1_2?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1377809186&sr=1-2&keywords=asus+monitor)
My rig:
Cpu: Intel Core i5-2500K 3.3 GHz
Cpu Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 Plus
GPu: GIGABYTE GeForce GTX 670
Ram: Corsair Vengeance 8 GB ( 2 x 4 GB ) DDR3
PSU: 700W
Motherboard: Asus Sabertooth Asus Sabertooth Z87
Boot Drive: SanDisk Extreme SSD 240 GB
Storage Hard Drive: WD Blue 1 TB
Dual Monitors: ASUS VS228H-P 22-Inch
Case: Cooler Master HAF 932
Thermal Paste: Arctic Silver Arctic Alumina

I might upgrade my PSU and add another 670 so i can run triple monitors, but is it worth it? I can only think of a handful of times when i wished i had a third monitor. It just seems so nice to game on 3 screens. What do you guys think? Is it worth it?

Solution
I would say it depends upon the games. I play Mafia Wars on Facebook - and on one screen, I have two tabs of Mafia Wars displayed, on the second screen, I have my Family Group Room displayed, and my personal profile displayed in a second tab. On the third monitor, I have other things that are displayed that are game related. Nice to have all the information at my finger tips.

I would make sure the game(s) you are playing would support 3 monitors, and what you can display on the monitors. What games are you playing?

It really depends upon the game, and the way that the game is framed for the monitors. If it simply takes three 1920 X 1080 desktops and makes a single 5760 x 1080 game screen, where you have the bezel going down the middle of action video, it would be distracting.

However, let's say you are playing a racing game. Monitor 1 has the left mirror, and gauges displayed, monitor 2 has the forward view and monitor 3 has the right mirror and gauges or other game related material, so that the video doesn't actually span the monitors, it would be a great setup.

But again, how does that work on a 2 monitor setup ? it's the 2 monitor gaming that I never quite understood.

Think of Dungeons and Dragons. The left screen displays the map of where you have been and your inventory, and the right screen displays the room or hallway you are in. Two separate displays - displaying different "frames" of the game. The bezel in the middle becomes a non-factor.

Similar to gauges in your car, they have a bezel between the speedometer and the gas gauge, but you can still read both....

im playing Splinter Cell Blacklist, BF3 (rarely) I love Battlefield but when school starts i barely play video games so i probably wont get bf4 or CoD Ghosts. I Brought Skyrim and never played it so im probably going to start playing that soon. Right now i play my games on my primary screen and on my second screen have my temps and skype open

Basically the point of having more screens is gaming (assuming you have three, five or 6) and productivity.
Whether spending the extra cash to unlock that functionality is worth is up to you, we cant tell you what you like. I personally have triple screens ( different resolutions and models, no Eyefinity for me :( ) and I couldn't go back to even dual screens I am so used to it. Ultimate plan for me is a proper triple monitor setup that I can game across, I see it as a better option than a 1440p or 120hz screen but that's just my personal preference.

Also nice work getting a 2500k working on a Z87 board
