Hello there, right now i got a Phenom 965 BE and a GTX 770 in my rig. I would like to upgrade the CPU but i dont know what is more worth, the 6300 or 8350. The 6300 is around 140$ in Sweden and the 8350 is around 240$ So what do u guys think? Should i OC the 6300 up to ~4 ghz and see what it goes for?Or should i directly get the 8350? Hmm or maybe wait for the new AMD cpu's that AMD is talking about?

Solution

Do not use an 8350 in an MSI 970a-g46 motherboard. The VRMs are low quality and cannot handle the load it requires. It has a well documented fail rate; do some research and you will see. Go with the 6300 to be safe. A small overclock can be applied, but be careful with that motherboard. I realize that's not what you want to hear, but you should still know the risks. MSI really messed up with that board. Start here and read the charts here to find out about the AMD motherboards with known VRM failures: http://www.overclock.net/t/946407/amd-motherboards-vrm-info-database

i have an amd fx 8350 and a gtx 770 and i get extraordinary frame rates! I would suggest to directly get the 8350 or if you have time and can wait, well wait for the 5ghz fx 8370 or 8390...don't remember the names ....

Yh i am aware of that, but i got 4 fans in my fractal design R4 and 1 of them are directly on the VRM's and i OC'd my 965 to 4ghz just to see the temps. I was in ~74-83 in heavy gaming so i cant see it "dangerous" but thanks for the replies u 2 but just whondering, is it worth the upgrade from 965 to fx6300 for 140$?

No, thats even worse than the g46. The g43 has zero cooling on the VRM. The g46 at least has a heatsink. But thats not even the main issue. MSI just plain used bad, cheap VRMs on the 970A-G series motherboards. Even heatsinks with fans dont fix the issue. They just cant handle the thermal load of the 8350 and eventually overvolt and kill the motherboard and even the cpu. Check that link i posted above and do some google searches on the 970a-g46 fail rates when used with an 8350.

I guess 8320 is as bad as 8350 on my board in that case, but how is 6300 vs 6350? it is 10$ difference

Don't wast your money on either like I did. I went from a 965 at 3.7GHz to a 8320 and have it at a very stable 4.7Ghz there is no measurable difference in those two for gaming. I tested both CPU's with a 660 SLI set up and I am currently running a GTX 680 again no real difference. On the games I have benchmarks for the 8320 is between .5% and 8% better
