I'm getting a budget processor - AMD A8-3850 APU and I have read that it's best to use faster ram with APU's. I currently have 4GB of memory and it's DDR3-1333. Will this be fast enough ram? Or should I get DDR3-1600? How much of a difference will it really make?

If you are using the onboard graphics on the CPU, then faster RAM makes a MASSIVE difference for GAMING.

Between 1600MHz and 1866MHz RAM you get a 5 FPS jump, which is reasonable for the small price increase.
The difference from 1333MHz to 1600MHz would be even better.

BUT if you are considering to replace your current 1333MHz RAM, then I would say save up a little more for AT LEAST 1866MHz RAM.

What exact mobo do you have?

My mobo is AAHD2-HY, Holly, if that's what your looking for. The highest I can find on crucial.com for my pc is 1600mHz.

So it's the speed of the ram and not the amount of ram I have that matters right?

Well 8GB is suggested, but 4GB is fine.
That mobo supports up to 1866MHz.

Oh and VERY important, make sure to get 2 identical chips in a set, DON'T just get one chip.
So maybe getting 8GB at once is a good idea.

Ok thanks for your help. One more thing, if I want to upgrade to 8 gigs, do I have to buy the two ram sticks in a pack in order for them to work properly or can I buy just another 4 gb piece?

Like I said, 2 of the same sticks in a pack is VERY important for an APU.
So either get 2x2GB RAM or if you EVER want 8GB, you need to get 2x4GB.

Here is a nice set that is VERY good.
