I'm having a strange problem with my Acer Aspire X1430. I can turn it on for the first time and it runs for about 3-5 minutes, operating normally, then it shuts down and starts trying to reboot. It it doesn't even make it to the post screen, it just turns on then off repeatedly until I pull the power cord. I have replaced the power supply, tried new ram (first in one slot then the other) and tried running it without the CDROM (everything else is integrated), checked to make sure the CPU fan is running, but nothing solves my problem. Does anyone have any ideas?

What power supply do you have in the computer now?
I will suggest trying to reset your CMOS clock to see if that helps. Another thing to check which is simple is the CMOS battery on the motherboard - it can be replaced rather inexpensively but you can simply check that it is supplying 3v (if you have a battery tester or multi-meter)

I have a Chicony CPB09-D220R 220W power supply that I pulled from another X1430 I was able to borrow and I've tried a FSP Group FSP300-60LG 300W power supply, both with no luck.

I have now replaced the CMOS battery (leaving the old one out long enough to require a clock reset) with a new one and reset the bios to default settings and still no luck.

I do not see any obvious damage to the motherboard (all capacitors 'look' ok) and I've double checked the connections...

But I've disconnected everything and just let it boot to a screen saying no disk has been detected or the disk has failed and it started the reboot here as well so I guess it is the motherboard.

Thanks for the help

So.. does anyone know where I can get a comparable tower running windows 7 to replace this one? This is for our church for word processing and such so it doesn't need to be the best.
