Hello all! I just recently built my first gaming computer, and i had a couple of questions i was hoping someone would be able to help me out with. I spent about $1200 on this system and from what i have read i was under then impression that i would be able to play just about any game quite well except maybe crysis 3 and other games with extreme graphics. I've download a couple games and I am not completely happy with the performance thus far.

When playing bioshock infinite on all ultra graphics, the fps will range in between 30-60 and gets quite choppy, windows even notifies me that my computer is running slow and i should change my color settings. When playing day z (arma 2 mod) my fps will drop to as low as 20 on large serves and even will drop to 45 on small servers just when zombies are on my screen (on normal graphic settings)

I understand that a $1200 build isn't top of the line, but i was expecting a little better performance out of. Anyways, here is the parts list:

-Intel I5 3570 3.4Ghz
-ASRock Z77 Extreme4 Motherboard
-EVGA GTX 760 (NVIDIA)
-Corsair 650w power supply
-Samsung 840 pro series 128 gb ssd
-WD Blue 1TB HDD
-Coolermaster Hyper 212 cpu fan
-Nzxt 410 mid size case
-8gb corsair vengence ram
-obviously a dvd drive

My main question is, based on these compenents, are my results normal/expected? or might there be something wrong with the system? I download windows 7 onto the ssd aswell as a few games and i have not done any overclocking or tweaking of the motherboard, cpu, and gpu. Thank you in advance for the help!

Solution
1 st stupid question, and don't be insulted, just a quick checklist.

1. Are you plugged into your motherboard or your graphics card for graphics.
2. did you install the nvidia drivers?

It sounds like either your on the onboard video, or running off the stock Windows 7 drivers.

My monitors are plugged into the graphics card, which is plugged into the motherboard and power supply. I installed the nvidia drives though i can try to reinstall them.

That score is well below expected, the base model of the 760 should be getting 8300, the EVGA SC edition should be getting near 8800:

where can i look at that? when i try to monitor my cpu it avgs at 3600-3700 mhz when playing games (supposed to be a 3.4ghz processor) but will go down to 1600 mhz when im just on the internet and not doing much. is that normal?

yes that is normal, your processor has a max turbo clock of 3.8Ghz :)

and it powers down when its not under load to around 1.55-1.6Ghz yes.

you can check your graphics card clocks with GPU-Z:

what am i looking for? gpu clock? it will rest at 135 mhz but goes up to about 1000 mhz when i am gaming. i have the evga precision so i can monitor it.

edit: and so with that being said i can rule out the cpu being the one that is causing the problems?

Did that. Downloaded the beta driver and did a clean download, then restarted comp and installed updates. Still no significant difference.

Was away for a few days, your graphics card may be faulty, contact the place you bought it from asap to get a swap for a card that works, or through EVGA (great customer support in my experience anyway) if you cant get it through the reseller.

I just sent a return invoice to newegg...looks like im within the 30 days so it will be no problem. Another question though, i downloaded "passmark" software just to get a second benchmark oppinion...and my results for both the cpu and the 3d graphics are right where they should be based on there charts. Is "passmark" a reputable test compared to 3dmark11?
