Why do i get big fps drops in bf3 i have a gtx 660 playing on low settings with a intel core i5 2300 and i think its my cpu but i cant be sure do i need to upgrade?

Solution
Update ur drivers, it should give u a performance boost if u havent update them. Also it may be ur cpu. Its stock clock speed of 2.8ghz in a quad core isnt great. At stock my x6 1055t doesnt do as well in bf3 as when overclocked, but will play higher than low. Make sure neither the cpu nor the gpu is overheating as it may cause a performance drop.

Also watch ur gpu use in game with something like fraps or msi afterburner, and cpu use while gaming and see which one is being used most and what one isnt being used near max which will tell if theres a bottleneck which at low preset shouldnt be one lol

I have been playing BF3 with a gtx660 and a core 2 duo E6600, its pretty smooth (40+ fps) at 1280x1024 on ultra, but i occasionally get slow downs which i believe is mainly because i only have 2gb of system ram, and it would have to do some paging here and there, I thnik your cpu should be fine how much ram you got?
