My AMD FX8350 is overheating at idle. The motherboard idles at 28C but my CPU idles from 58-62C. I even underclocked it and shut off 6 cores of the 8 cores and it hasn't gone under 58C

Solution
It sounds like a bad mount or there is either too much thermal paste or not enough.

The motherboard is the chipset and its temp has nothing to do with the CPUs temp. You could have the chipset idle at 50c and the CPU at 30c. They are independent of each other.

I was wondering if MSI has a bug with the sensors or the BIOS because it seems to let the CPU fan slow down but when input my hand near it the fan speeds up, the MB temp is only 28C is it normal for there to be that big a difference between MB temp and CPU temp? So could it just be a bug because one of my techs friend said he thinks its a bug? Is that possible?

Yes the CPU fan is plugged in, it spins at about 3800 rpm and the case has 3 huge fans to help out

i have the same exact problem ,i even installed a new cooler and still the same , i regret buying this cpu now , it seems that too many people have similar problems with the temps

yup.. me too,, I'm getting 58c-60c on idle and the fan is super loud. I know the stock cooler is crap, but I should not be getting this temp if I'm not overclocking. I have tried resetting the cpu and cooler several times using Artic 5 paste, but it does not do anything. The system case temp is 30c, so there is not an issued with airflow - Very disappointed with this CPU - I will be returning this to Amazon.

Hello,

I am myself using a newly bought FX-8350. After two days I bought a new cooler because the supplied cooler was very loud and still the computer became very warm. I bought a Noctua NH-U9B SE2 for 499 SEK (~50€).

Now my CPU temp is ~40-50*C in idle. And sound level around 17 db :)

Best regards, Fredrik.
