Hi Guys. I'm new to the community and this is my first post. So be nice! :)

Here's my dilemma. I have an Old Asus Maximus formula mbd. 4gb RAM Q6600 cpu and an old Nvidea 8800GT Alpha dog. Battle field 4 is coming out soon, and so any other kick-ass releases, but I really couldn't be bothered about having a super computer just to have fun. What I'd like to know is, do I need a whole new machine to jam the new releases this year or could I just upgrade my graphics card and RAM, and possibly get a few more years out my old girl?

You help and advice is greatly appreciated guy :)

Solution
Get a good CPU cooler and start overclocking.
Your CPU has legendary overclocking capabilities.
The Cooler Master 212 EVO is one of the best budget coolers available.

After you're done with your CPU, buy a new graphics card.

Right you can pick up a HD 7870 with a good cooler for about 160 $ after rebate and discount which is a very good deal.

Performance wise it sits right between the GTX 660 and the more powerfull GTX 660 Ti.
Expect your FPS to more than triple after the upgrade.

Firstly, I like the post heading, clever :)

Well you can eek some more performance as you said. The q6600 is a great chip, and the asus mobo is great for OC'ing it. With a decent enough card it will still be ood to game on high settings in most games.
I have my q6600 oc'ed at 3ghz. modest overclock yes (you should be able to do much better with your mobo.

I play BF3 on high settings at 1680 x 1050 at about 50-60fps with some occasional dips to mid 40's. With something slightly more powerful GPU wsie, like a GTX660ti/GTX760 you would get better performance than me, and with a decent OC to say 3.4-3.6 it will still be a good experience for you. At 3.6ghz your Q6600 should not bottleneck the cards Ive mentioned, but after the GPU and maybe more ram, don't waste any more money. :)
