Came home yesterday to find my computer hung up on a black screen, rebooted, windows loaded fine. Got in started firing up my normal programs, everything was running extra slow, and then bam, shuts down. Now when I turn my pc on, It doesnt even post. Tried firing it up barebones(cpu, speaker, fans, and still nothing, no beeps to signify hardware issues, nothing. My hope is that my power supply is going, and im not getting enough juice to fire up. My worry is that my motherboard is fried.
When I start the PC up now, everything comes on(lights, fans, etc), just won’t post. But my back fan looks to be running a little slower than it should be, could be all in my head though. Also I have to shut the pc off with the switch in the back, normally im able to hold in my power button to power down, will not do that now(not sure if that signifies anything)
I have been running this build since I upgraded the MB/chip about two years ago, no issues at all until last night.

Anyone have any thoughts?

Asus Sabertooth 990fx, AMD Bulldozer, PSU is 550 watts(it is about 5 years old, and I think my PC was right on the end of running all my componets with it)

How are you checking if its posting (you looking at the light or listening to sound). If sound are you sure your motherboard has a Post Speaker some have remove it to save costs and you will have to buy one to check.

I dont have a spare to test, but I just ordered one to change it out, I figure that its time to get a new one regardless.

You dont think the MB could be fried though?
I tried booting without the graphics/ram in, so dont believe they are the problem, I still got nothing when I booted without those.

I believe its your PSU, what brand is it? One of my friends gave me his old computer because it wouldn't turn on, found out that the culprit was the PSU. Always go with a good brand of PSU, I've been using the corsair CX series PSUs.

Ive been using this build for 2 years now, the speaker has always worked. so unless somehow that got fried, it is not making any beeps now.

And all lights and fans are coming on.
