AMD A4-5300 or Intel I3 3240

Hi,

I came straight here to ask this question. Which one is better for gaming with a nvidia gtx 650 ti?
Why is there such a price gap in these 2 cpu's based on they're both 3.4ghz and dual core.

Lol the i3 3240 is about 2-3x faster then the a4. The a4 is there to compete against intel celerons. i3 3240 won't bottleneck a 650ti while the a4 cpu is just to slow for any games. AMD need twice as much cores and higher clockspeed to get similar multithreaded performance to intel cpus. The a4-5300 is not designed for playing any cpu intensive game.

The a4 competitor of intel is the lower clocked celeron and the celeron still destroys the a4.

If you are on a tight budget get this cpu but note in games that need 4 threads it won't be as good as an i3 but playable, (codemaster games benefit greatly with i3 over 2 core 2 thread pentium which destroys the a4-5300:

I am going for the intel, I was just asking what is the A4 like.

If you wait just a little longer, the Haswell i3's are being released soon. Just a heads up.

Agree with hajifur, the i3 will smoke the A4.

I just checked the Haswell i3's out and they don't look great with sub 3.0ghz clock speed. I'm confused. :??:

You must have been looking at the mobile versions. These are the desktop parts:
Haswell core i3's

You can see them listed there by their designation i3-4XXX. All are running over 3GHz. Just understand that with modern CPU's, higher clock speed does not necessarily = better performance.
