I have an XPS 435MT i7 processor. It consistently does not complete the boot process after a normal shutdown--blue progress line goes halfway and stalls. After doing a hard shutdown at that point and then restarting after 10-15 sec, it boots normally. How can I fix this?

Well I would say if it happens during a boot of windows, then it must be driver related.
Or for example if you say did a restart of the system/ windows and it hits the error some bit of hardware is not clearing or resetting it`s self properly.

In other words it is still in use, and when it comes to loading windows the driver for the device locks the windows loading process because it can not talk to the hardware device.

If it is the case when you shut the system down and restart it a few seconds later and it boots fine into windows without a freeze at loading it is indeed the case.

Most culprits can be wi-fi cards if you have the option to switch them on or off by the keyboard or a switch via the laptop.

If you have a switch to disable wi-fi on the laptop turn it off before you do a restart of windows ect.

See if windows loads fine, then you know what it is.

Thanks for the reply Shaun o. It happens during the first part of the boot--So at the Dell XPS logo screen. Not an expert, but don't think it ever gets to Windows. It's a desktop, so no WiFi card.
