H55 water cooler question

Until today I was using the Corsair H55 to cool my cpu but I just upgraded my rig to better stuff and I don't need it anymore so I was going to sell it to my friend who said he'd like it.

The problem is that I used those adhesive strips that come with it and ripped them to pieces trying to get them off the back of my MB before i put on my new cooler.

My question is will he be able to still use the cooler and install it in his system without those adhesive strips?

Chances are it would still work as long as the back plate is plastic or otherwise covered to prevent metal on board contact.

I have never taped back plates on. Always just left the tape covering the sticky side that would touch the board in place. thin mounting tape from a hardware store may be a suitable replacement for what the cooler came with.
