ASUS HD 7770 2GB or HD 7850 1GB

I'll be running an AMD FX-6300 in my gaming machine.

For me right now, the HD 7850 2GB card is too much. So should I go for the HD 7850 1GB or the HD 7770 2GB? It looks like only ASUS makes the 2GB version of this card.

without a doubt the 7850 1gb. Pity you can't get the 2gb one though. with just 1gb you run into issues at 1080p and may have to dial back settings a little to maintain performance. At 1080p 1gb cards run out of memory very quickly. Specially with the likes of BF3 etc. With newer games coming out it will be even more pronounced.

edit: don't mean to be rude, but is it really a stretch to get extra 20-30 bucks for the 2gb 7850.....maybe just save for another week? :) it would be worth it.
  2. Wait a few months and the 7850 and the 7870s will drop in price as AMD releases new cards.

Thanks man! Why not the 2GB 7770 then? It's actually the cheapest of the bunch.
  4. Clock speed would be my guess. Or VRAM, if one is DDR3 and one is GDDR5 then that'd be a total game changer.
  5. I was looking at ASUS only on NewEgg and just found that the Sapphire 7850 2GB is only $150 after rebate. I think I'll go for it.

yeah, that maybe so, but it's not all about big numbers on the Vram front. The processor in the 7850 is so much better and gives much more raw performance (meaning extra fps :) ). The extra ram, really only helps with higher AA/AF settings, and higher resolutions.

yes, that's a great price. excellent card. Now, if the 7870 XT was close or in your budget, that would be the best price/performance AMD card right now, that would be my choice. But seeing as you have a budget in mind, the 7850 2 gb will be a great choice. That's good hunting dude, great price for that 7850 :)

Thanks for your help, I'm limited by the amount of $$$ I have left on PayPal at the moment. This will be a huge upgrade regardless compared to what I've been using....can't wait!

  9. I would check around for the clock speed on that card. It doesn't say on newegg.com but if it's an 860mhz, I'd fork over the extra and get this one (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814202033)
