I have Toshiba Satellite L300D, running on Windows 7 Ultimate.

Just a few days back, I wanted to install Bluestack to run Whatsapp on my laptop. So I searched for update of graphics driver. Instead of updating the driver, it changed my ATI Radeon X1250 to Standard VGA Graphics Adapter. I lost the original resolution of 1280x800 HD display on my laptop.

Now even after struggling for a week or so, I am unable to reinstall ATI Radeon X1250 adapter driver. Those websites (Toshiba and many more) list so many of them, but none of them works, even though I tried many Autodetect programs. Identified them with the hardware vendor/id etc. I think I have tried everything available. I even tried auto-update Standard VGA card, but it says no updates, latest update is already installed.

I am confused and frustrated with the display I have now. Many of the games do not load at all. Movies play jerky frames.

Is there any solution? I believe I found everything except the right one.

Thank you,

Hey Casey, I just solved it!!!

I am posting the procedure for the sake of many asking for solution to the Standard VGA Graphics Adapter problem, and they are unable to install/ update the display adapter.

Below I am listing a generalized process (This is how I solved my problem after struggling for about a week with my ATI Radeon X1250 adapter)

* Download the required driver software that matches your hardware definition. Save a copy of the drivers in a safe place, in case you accidentally happen to delete them from your PC.

You may copy the content below and paste it in a TEXT file for your ready reference.

0. Disconnect from internet and Disable your anti-virus program and before going to step number 1 (Important)

I have a Dell Latitude D531 running an ATI Radeon X1270, just a slightly faster version of the same chip you have.

If I remember correctly, the installer for the driver available from ATI didn't work for me on Windows 7, so I had to manually install the driver by upgrading the driver in Device Manager and pointing Windows to the driver. You may also be able to click the "Update Driver..." button, except instead of letting Windows pick the best driver, click "Browse my computer for driver software..." That should give you an option to pick from a list of drivers, where hopefully your old drivers are there.

0. Disconnect from internet and Disable your anti-virus program and before going to step number 1 (Important)

1. Boot computer in SAFE mode (press F8 during restart)

2. Extract the Driver software .ZIP completely to extract all folders. Extract the .EXE also.

3. Go to Device Manager

4. Select Display adapter (in my case it reads 'Standard VGA Graphics Adapter' that I need to change to 'ATI Radeon X1250')

5. Right click and select Properties, select update driver

6. In the update dialog select 'Browse my computer fro driver software'

7. In the Next dialog window, select 'Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer'.

8. In the Select driver dialog, pick on 'Have Disk'

9. Browse to the folder you extracted the ZIP file earlier (locate the '.inf' file) The .INF file would be located in the Packages>Drivers>Display>XXX_INF.

10. Run the installation, and you are done!!!

11. Restart the computer in normal mode.

12. Enable Anti-virus programs

I am sure this will help a lot of my friends who have been struggling to find a solution to this problem.

Good Luck!

That worked. I had an old dell 1521 insprion lying around and my old benq netbook was so busted. So i upgraded the memory on the dell inspiron to 3.25 gb and then syspreped the win 7 installation on the old benq. Moved the sysprepped win 7 hdd from the benq and put it into the dell 1521. Everything was ok except for one programme visible body that kept giving trouble. The visible body support analysed the .dmp file and told me that the graphics card drivers was not updated. they were right. the device manager showed the driver was a standard vga adapter. got the driver for ati radeon 1250 but couldn't get it to install. then came up on this post and it worked. Now i have the soul of my old pc in new laptop. Thank you you rock.
