I was considering relieving my old Socket 478 PC and throwing together a new(er) LGA 775 PC for my home file server. Basically, all I need are a motherboard that will do at least 4 SATA ports (SATA-II?), a Windows 7 compatible video card (preferably the HIS IceQ series that exhaust air our the back, if the mobo doesn't have onboard video), a quiet but effective cooler, and a case. I'm going for quiet and looks, for the most part.

It be cheaper for you to use an amd apu CPU and a micro atx mb. If you don't like amd the use intel g chip. The DDR two ram is not cheap as one eight gig DDR-3 stick. With the newer mb and CPU if you don't need it as a server you could turn it into a gaming rig. The other issues all the parts going to be used and not have any warranty on them.

That would be fine if I needed a gaming-grade system, but I need a file server system. Intel is better at this, especially with their SATA solutions.
