Maximus V Extreme and my 9800 GTX (x2) cards

I just bought a new mobo, 16 GB ram and i7 CPU but kept my 9800 GTX cards that I had SLI in my old board. Runs fine (not SLI obviously) on generic VGA driver but when I installed the latest driver and the ver 295 driver (read that might be the best driver for an older card) I get the BIOS screen, then the first Windows 7 screen then the power save message comes on my monitor but I see the HD still running etc. I can get it back by restoring to before the driver installation. Any thoughts on what is happening?

I'm not running Nvidia right now, but their website says that 320.49 is WHQL for that card. Have you tried it?

Time to upgrade to the 700 series Nvidia cards then you won't have that issue.

Yes, tried that one and 295 - same results. Powersave mode after initial Windows screen.

you probably need to go into bios and disable any on-board intel graphics, and make the pcie slot as your primary display. You will probably find if you plug your monitor into the motherboard dvi connector you will get a display.

Looks like I am headed towards a new card. I was never super convinced my SLI cards made a huge difference, but not sure. Thoughts on what card I should go to with this mobo/cpu? Money is not a huge issue, but I don't need to spend top dollar to get the very latest. I would be good with a really solid graphics card (or two?). I liked the idea of the 690 but welcome ideas.

SLI 770s will stomp a 690 and for a good bit less $$$.

When there is no display, check to see if you are able to see anything on the motherboard graphics as opposed to the Nvidia ones.

Also, I would just use the one Nvidia recommends. I use 320.49 on my older Nvidia 8600GT.

I ended up buying a 770 with 4GB. My plan is to use that for now and buy an identical one in 6 months or so, when the price drops and SLI it.

So the 770 didn't work either. Turned out I needed to delete the NVIDIA folder then install the drivers from SAFE mode. That worked for the 770 and it has ben smooth sailing since.
