Quick CPU Temperature Question

Hi, I have an i5 4670k processor. Using HWmonitor or Realtemp, I'm seeing a maximum of 72 C temps while gaming.

My question is, for this processor will prolonged usage at around 72 C core temperatures (as reported by HWmonitor or realtemp) significantly reduce the lifespan of my CPU?

Thanks!

Solution
Ok, I was leaning toward an MMO. that is because, even though Haswel's run warmer than previous gens with overclocks, a stand alone game should not work a stock speed Haswel cpu all the way up to low 70's with a stock heat sink. That is a temp I would expect from heavier cpu loads. With Stand alone games, you should hover around the upper 60's.

So finally, yeah those are good temps.

Good luck

Any temperature at all will reduce the lifespan of a chip. However it won't begin to cause any damage until you reach the mid-high 90s, if not 100s. 72 will keep your chip running probably for years to come, and most overclockers try to shoot for a maximum of 80.

In other words, 72 is great.

Thanks everyone, I feel much better now. Very much appreciate the replies.

@satyamdubey - yeah just the intel stock heatsink a fan, no overclocking at all. I know the "K" is the unlocked version but I tried reading up on overclocking and it seemed way too complex for me. I don't even really feel comfortable removing the heatsink or applying thermal paste, so I don't want to change the cooling unless I absolutely have to in order to not destroy my system. The game in question is "Final Fantasy XIV" its an MMO game.
