I need to know whether I should upgrade my CPU or GPU. I only have enough money to do one or the other. This will be for running Battlefield 4.

Current CPU: Intel Core i3-3220 @ 3.30 GHz (Will be upgrading to Intel Core i5)

Current GPU: Nvidia Geforce GTX 645 (Will be upgrading to Geforce GTX 660)

Solution
as long as you want to upgrade both that should be fine. i think your i3 should work just fine with 660. the problem is the game itself. i heard dual cores are going as good as quad cores in BF3 in single player but they say the difference really comes out when it comes to multi player. but i still believe using dual cores might not preventing you from playing the game at all. if you go for gpu first other games can benefit from that as well.

It would be good if you could upgrade both. Since you have the money only for one upgrade. I would suggest you to buy a cpu if you are happy to run the game with low settings. We all don't know its cpu requirements . If you want to run the game from med to high settings the i would suggest you upgrade the gpu but your current cpu might bottleneck it.

Spend your money (until it hurts) on your graphics.

Also ... there is quite a price war going on between the 660 and the Radeon HD 7870 ... the XFX DD is $170 after rebate
