Have a Maxtor N40P that registers in BIOS but not with HD Tune http://www.hdtune.com/ so am unable to check its status.
Did a quick forum search nothing so Googled and found "I see it in the bios as Maxtor N40P and I am unable to format it with any number of boot cds. I understand this to be a firmware issue." http://forum.hddguru.com/viewtopic.php?t=22961&start=
