why do we need to install 1GB NIC on our computers

You don't need to. Networks are getting faster and many office have upgraded their networks to support the faster 1Gb nic cards. Many home networks don't support higher than 100Mb, but the nic cards are so cheap to make that the 1Gb cards are no more expensive, so really the answer is why not get the faster card.
