Hi, so my laptop has a maximum ram capacity of 8gb but only one slot. But here's the catch. The one slot is only 2GB and the other 2GB is actually in the motherboard i guess? because i can't seem to find it so i assumed that the label was wrong and that the one slot was actually a 4gb. So i purchased a 1x8gb for my laptop but when i put it in, its still reading 2gb in slot 1 and 8gb in slot 2, Causing windows to crash. So i figured if i could somehow disable that first slot that i could just have slot 2 with 8gb. PLEASE HELP!!!!

my laptop model is: Samsung sf310

Leave it as that, if it works, but there must be another problem. If bios registers the ram and windows starts at all, the laptop is capable of using the entire 10GB. Take a look in event viewer. Maybe there is an error message with the root cause for the crash.

"windows has encountered an error :(" or something like that. Whenever i put the 1x8gb in, it registers it in the bios but whenever i try and boot windows it crashes and shuts down. Yes the laptop is limited to 8gb

I figured it out! So windows WAS crashing because my motherboard had a ram cap of 8gb. So what i did was go into run < ms config < boot < advanced options and then limited the ram to 2GB, then shut down. insert the 1x8gb, then go back into the boot options and limit it to 8gb :)
