Looking for a temp monitor works with AMD FX-4100

I have tried coretemp, HWMonitor, Speedfan, and all of them are saying that when the cpu is under load its at only 20 degrees celcius which I know is not true.

If anyone knows of a program that will let me monitor my CPU temps and is compatible with the AMD FX-4100 Quad Core processor please let me know!

Solution

AFAIK AMD processors do not have an actual temp sensor, they calculate the temps based on say, load, voltage etc. The bottom line is that you can't believe the idle temps, for instance my rig idles at 14 deg C in a 20 deg C room (Coretemp), from what I have read only the load temps can be trusted.

(edit) oops, saw that those are under load, that is weird....suggest you should...

Celica GT, Thats actually a really good point. I wrote that wrong I meant to say that when the cpu is under load it gets to a normal temp like 55-60
So what you are saying is that there is no way to actually read your temps accurately with the certain cpu?

Measuring temperatures on a CPU is a slightly convoluted affair. There are usually two sets of temperature probes: the on-die CPU core sensors, and the CPU socket sensors. The CPU socket are on the motherboard, and the the CPU core are, well, on the chip.

The CPU socket sensors are close enough to the CPU to count, but there is enough space between it and the CPU itself that there is a degree of inaccuracy. The CPU socket is great for idle temperatures, but at full load it usually reads 5-15C higher.

The on-die CPU core sensors give read-outs based on a "weighted" equation to give more accurate temperatures at load, but at idle it usually displayed below-ambient results.

Agreed Calculatron. There is actually a really good thread about this whole affair over at Overclock.net, I Googled it when I saw the same low temps on my rig. Anyhow, from what I've been reading the crossover point is around 45-46 deg C, I'm assuming that's actual temps of course. My box runs around 14-15 idle and taps out at 55-58 in Skyrim, can't say for sure if it's entirely accurate but it's inline with what others are getting (and the OP as well). All this is in Coretemp. Another thing to consider is clockspeed, If you are hitting max turbo then you have no worries, the processor will downclock if it's overheating, I use the System tray icon in Coretemp and change the polling interval to 100 milliseconds as the max speeds are only hit for brief intervals depending on core loading etc.

Cheers.
