Okay so here's my story;
I recently built my rig and installed Windows 8 via USB. I recently had my SSD fail completely and I promptly RMA'ed it. So I have been told that it will be back on Monday but guess what, USB has died. I have an external USB drive and I was wondering if I would be able to use it to install windows 8? If it helps my mobo is an MSI Z87-G43.

Just wondering if I can make do with what I have, if not I will just go out and get another USB!

Yes, that will work.

OK...a bit of a confused description.

What "USB" died?
What type of 'external' are we talking about? An external DVD? Should work fine.
An external HDD? Again, should work fine, once you use the tool from MS to put the install on that drive.

Sorry it's a bit late, I was installing via a USB stick and it has unfortunately died a death. I was hoping I could install via an external dvd drive (usb connection).
