GTX 555 not found after plugging into Gigabyte 3.0 motherboard

Been searching for hours and figured reinstalling windows 7 would work, it has not and I am at my wit's end. Any assistance would be appreciated.

sorry should have added more info, just frustrated, I've been at this for like 5 hours now.

Gigabyte 3.0 motherboard.
4gb DDR ram
1.9GHz quad core intel processor
the graphics card is the gtx 555

My friend gave me his unused graphics card and when I clip it in and then plug in the PCI-e cable the fan powers up, but the device doesn't appear in the device manager screen and when I go to Add Hardware it is only showing Intel products.

When I try the driver package it says no compatible hardware found
