Hi, I'm just wondering would i be able to overclock a 3570k with the stock psu that comes with the Thermaltake commander Ms-I, it is 500w. And I am running 2hdd, aftermarket 212 evo CPU cooler, and 4 case fans along with a gtx650ti BOOST
Or would I be Better to get a fx6300 with a smart power 600 bronze psu?, plus I'm on a tight budget of 900$ and I have to get them from any Australian site, mwave, centrecom, pccasegear, etc.

Thanks, Dan

The power supplies that come in most cases are the cheapest available. While they may work, they are best replaced by something more reputable which matches the needs of the machine being built. From my experience, they usually blow within the first month if stressed. If however they happen to be overkill for the situation, they can last for years.

I would not advise using a PSU like that. Make sure to spend money and get a good PSU for your system.

Thanks for the reply, so your saying if I want to overclock that I SHOULDT use the case ones. If I want to use a i5 that's what I'm gonna have to do, but is I use the fx6300, I get a Better cooler, case, and I get a Thermaltake smart power 600w bronze modular psu, would u advise against that option
?

Thanks again, Dan

I would purchase a case without a power supply, to be honest, save some money, and put it toward a better PSU that is able to match anything you wish to do with it.

No. It was a good call to ask us.

Don't get us wrong, it may work at full power once or twice running an overclock for say an hour or two.

What we are saying is it die very quickly, and it's not the dying that you should be worried about, it's the damage to the rest of the pc when it does that you should be worried about.
Having lost 2 Hdds and a motherboard myself due to running cheap psus, I can tell you overclocking on a cheap one is false economy.

Just saw your other post, while the thermaltake smart power bronze 600w would be fine, if you get any beefier graphics card than your 650 then you'd need a better one. Anything like Seasonic or corsair ain't bad. expensive though.

So should I just compermize some performance and get the fx6300 chip. I'm ok with that, and the nzxt guardian 921 case does look nice. It's either that with a 212evo or a contact 39 by Thermaltake, or it is a fx8120 with the included liquid cooling, but I've heard that the bulldozer chips are terrible. So, advice in that manor?

No, the Intel series are better at gaming. an entry i5 is on par with high end bulldozer!

No..just no.If you're building a system;DO NOT skimp on the PSU,EVER!
mobos,cpus..they come and go..but the PSU remains constant.
If you wanna OC,you need a 750-850w solid unit with a single 12v rail
(That's for 1 GPU)
umm..seasonic,..corsair..I'm using a Rosewill Capstone 750 Gold ATM..
i think i has a Thermaltake toughpower 850 for sale on OCN..it's older..really only 750w
moar PSUs.. hmm
Enermax,LEPA (same/same) I used a TR2 800 for a long time.

But Is overclocking really worth it, if I got the fx6300 and a good psu, and a good cooler etc, would it at least nearly be on par with just multi tasking, I don't mind if my fps is down a little in games, but I just want to be able to run things without lag. I've built pc's before but I have never overclocked. So just a i5 non k or a fx,63000 overclocked?

Well, price wise, yes.

But it depends what you want to run, and how big your monitor is.

ie: for Bf3 running at fullhd you would be better off with an entry i5 coupled with a 7850 gfx card.

if that's beyond your budget, and it's like 100 bucks less for the fx then yeah, go for that and overclock.

I mean, if your going to get an extra 10% frame rate, but have to spend 30% extra to get it, it ain't really worth it.. I know the Intel chips are really expensive, especially in Australia and nz.

If you want a good, cheap system that will do daily tasks snappily and be able to game:
a)used 2500K + p67-z68-ish
b)(and my fav) A decent am3-3+ mobo and a Deneb and OC it.
Even the Hashwell lags n lags...you click something, and it might take 10-15 seconds to open; This does not happen with AMD (k10)
FX..ehZ,I give the finger to FX for daily performance.

Where do you get this "Haswell lags n lags" from? My system in my sig has NO lag!

yes get a better psu than comes with yer case. also the fx6300 does oc better either way FYI.

the only way I'd ever suggest using a default case psu to overclock is if yer overclocking a light chip, like a 5400k apu (65w) and only doing a modest oc, say 200 mhz (400mhz turbo) even a barebones 450-500w psu like comes standard can handle the 70-75w tdp of a 5400k @ 3.8ghz/4ghztrubo. though I still highly recommend swapping it out fer a good quality psu as soon as possible.
