looking at SSD's reviews on NEwegg I cant find any single SSD without at least some reports of it failing after a short while (less than a year)
I'd like to know please if there is an SSD that can last longer than a year
or this technology has an innate fault that can lead to failure?

thanks a lot

most of them can its just that well it will hapen to sombody and its far more likely for that one person who had it fail to go blalb then the thousands who didnt but if you realy REALY need to wory you have two options a. get a stupidly expensive slc drive or b. buy a crucail m4

Depends on what your doing but the samsung 840pro is very reliable. If your doing server side things then Intel is more optimized for that kind of work, but your looking at 1-2k. Most manufactures will warranty it for a year to life depending on the manufacture. SSD's are very reliable you may get a dud here and there. Failure comes from high IOs which they were only designed for consumer market.

You'll find exactly the same kind of reports for spinning drives, or motherboards, or blenders, or anything more complex than a hammer.
"Waaaahhhh! I bought one and it died within a month! This company SUCKS!"

(ignoring the tens of thousands of other owners whose exact same thing did NOT die within a month. Or a year.)

Let me rephrase that:
"...anything more complex than a toothpick"

(and then of course someone will get a splinter from one, or stab themselves in the lip)

It is simply Murphy's Law: Anything that can go wrong, will go wrong.

Most solid state drives come with a standard 3 year warranty. Some of the high quality ssd's like the Samsung 840 Pro come with a 5 year warranty.

The user comments at Newegg have some inherent problems. Dissatisfied buyers are more likely to post comments than satisfied buyers so the percentages are skewed. In addition, there is quite a bit of information missing in the user comments which might provide a clue as to why an ssd suddenly died. There are other components in the data transmission pipeline that could suddenly develop problems. Users think the ssd died when in fact something else changed in the pipeline. Sometimes it is just a case of user error.

thank you all, this information you have provided me with is valuable to me

yes, I wish that the 'unlucky' users would have supplied further info with regard to their ssd failing, that would have assisted me in considering the various aspects of those drives which can fail,

as with regard to the maybe 'more reliable' brands, Samsung 840 pro was mentioned here twice and crucial m4 once

between these 3 drives, I sorted them according to their cost, starting from the cheapest

1) SSD Samsung 840 Series MZ-7TD120B 120GB
2) Crucial Solid Series M500 120GB CT120M500SSD1 SSD
3) SSD Samsung 840 Pro Series MZ-7PD128B 128GB

my main uses are office jobs with some degree of multitasking and some basic programming
which one among these ssd's would best suit my needs (mainly reliability concern) also my Motherboard can only take Sata II so there is that speed bottleneck there anyway,,,

thanks

ok thanks for the input and advice, just before I focus on saving for that guy, how would you rate that one
G.Skill Phoenix III 120GB FM-25S3-120GBP3

in comparison to the crucial? I read some good reviews of it, what do you think?

Go with the Samsung 840 250GB or any of the Pro series. The proof has already been shown that despite being TLC, it lasts way longer than the company advertised lifetime. I've already had my 840 (250 GB non-pro) for a year and it is running smooth as new. You won't be disappointed.

ok so I understand the Samsung is alright but if not the Pro, if its the regular one, what advantage it has over the Crucial M500?

also i'd appreciate you all's take on the G.Skill Phoenix III I mentioned

I would also say m500 but not because of anything to do with the nand cell technology used. The M500 has better security features as well as protection against sudden power loss which make it the better choice IMO.

I had a toothpick break off and get stuck in my gums and it sucked. I had to go to Wal-Mart and buy a pair of tweezers at like 10:30pm at night to get it out. Those tooth picks freaking suck
