Gpu bridge is too small to use the two closest pcie slots. (1 and 2).

Is using slots 2&3 worth it? Is performance loss big with the closest card being 3-4 inches further away?

Looking at dual 770s and if I use the water bridge I bought they have to go in the 2&3 slots instead of 1&2.

Is performance better if I put the cards closer together or closer to the cpu?

Keeping them close to the cpu means I will use fittings and a short hose.

This depends entirely on the motherboard. Some motherboards will allow you to SLI in any slots you want, others are very particular. Most boards nowadays recommend slots 1 and 3; which model motherboard are we looking at?

ASROCK fatality z68 professional gen3

I believe the slots are 16x single, 8x 8x SLI, 8x 8x 4x if all three are used. Not sure if it's 8x, 8x, if I use slots 2 and 3, or only for 1 and 2.

I think the simplest and safest thing to do would be to use the first two PCIe slots and grab a new SLI bridge for a couple bucks.
