Which CPU cooler should I go with? Water cooling or air cooling with fans?

Hey everyone I just wanted to know the answer to a few questions....

Before I begin with the question let me inform you all why I have these concerns...
I am buying the parts for my next gaming and editing PC. I will be also be doing live commentaries and lets plays (The mic will only be 2.5-5 feet from the PC) I'm worried that fans will make too much noise and won't be a good enough source of cooling.

(I don't want the viewers watching my videos to hear my PC at all)


I currently don't have the money for great custom water cooling and I don't plan on overclocking unless I go with the custom water cooling then I most likely would overclock.

Do you suggest I go with one of these aftermarket CPU heat sinks

Or go with a custom Loop...(I'll probably go with either of the aftermarket CPU coolers to begin with and if I decide to upgrade I will)

I start by forgetting about the ALC units from Asetek and sold by Antec, Corsair and others......In order to tackle the risk of a leak you should get lower noise and substantially better temps and these things simply don't do that. I'd suggest the Swiftech 220 but ya cant get that in US any more (patent issue). The CM Eisberg 240L Prestige was one I recommended a lot but newegg just raised the price $50

Can grab one of these kits to make the selection process easier

If you're already set on a custom water loop when you have more money, I would just stick with the stock cooler. There's no point of buying an aftermarket cpu cooler if you're not overclocking and you're just going to ditch it when you have more money.

I thought the stock cooler is terrible? and If I do go to water cooling, it won't be for a few months after the build. if so should I go with the aftermarket?

Im still not set

Memory is where you can save too. No need for 2400MHz memory. New Intel 4930k supprts only 1866MHz memory.

Sandisk ultra plus is really good SSD. Cheap and fast. Really reliable too. For 170 $ it is good buy 256GB SSD.

More room / $ And samsung did sell HDD fabrication to seagate so they are really good now. Reliagility is same level as the WD do have.

Intel E5 do not have any cooler in when you buy cpu.

So if you need one take CM 212 EVO. It is cheap.


PSU you can find cheaper and as good as the Corsair Ax.

Two psu is not bad idea for build like that. I found 1000w psu for just 90 $ price. So two is cheaper than one Corsair
180 $ vs 260 $ And you have full 2000w so it is more than you never need. And your pc still works fine with one psu.
If one fails. But one 850w is enough for two 780 + 4930k.

And cooling. First get one radiator. Biggest you can fit in 900D. NexXxoS UT 60 is good one.
Then pump. Best is D5 pump. There is lots of versions. Justpick one that is good for you.

Then you just need GPU blocks and res, some fittings and tube. Some water additives too.
Then you are good to go. Well fans I did forget. Take some good 140mm silent fans. Scythe gentle typhoons are really silent but they do come only 120mm size. Noiceblocker PRO is good.

I'm in agreement with others here.

It looks like you're set on upgrading to a custom water loop at some point. Since the i7-4930K has plenty of performance for the foreseeable future, my recommendation would be to buy a cheap air cooler until the funds become available. At that point, spend as much as desired on a proper water loop.

Okay, thank you everyone

If I am to do a custom water loop (single loop) Do I need a powerful pump, like how powerful?

...and as long as my custom water cooling stuff is the same metal (copper, nickel...) and the tubing and fittings are the same, will every manufacture work with them if I was to mix and matchbrands ?

Best is make full list of parts and put in other tread in watercooling section. I think that is good way to go.
