Hey guys I have a problem where I have a system which works perfectly fine with just 1 stick of 4GB RAM:

I have this Mobo:

http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=4969048

I also have my OS installed on the Samsung 840 SSD (120 GB)

...

The system works perfectly fine when I have 4GB installed, however, as soon as i put in that extra RAM (into the correct slots as recommended by the Mobo Manual), I get an empty black screen with a single "_ " (underscore) when I turn it on

Then when I take that off, it works perfectly fine again.

I really don't want to have wasted $50 ; _ ;

Please help!

Thank you!!!

test the other ram stick, take out the one that works, install the extra one in that slot and see if it starts, if it does then you may just have a faulty ram slot, if it doesn't, you have yourself a bad stick of ram.

Does your ram match? It needs to be the same DDR3, 1600MHz, PC3-12800, CL 11, 1.5V (PX34G1600C11). Other manufactures have different specs and most likely wont work together.

Not really correct, 99% of the time ram reverts to whatever the slower ram stick thats placed in the computer (as long as its supported by the cpu/mobo) for instance if i had a stick of ram of ddr3 1333mhz and a stick of ddr3 1866, the computer would switch the ddr3 1866 to ddr3 1333.

I beleive so, the Patriot RAM sticks i used were listed on my F285 Pro mobo maual

Also, the extra RAM is the exact same thing, I bought two of the exact same RAM sticks

Ok i will try

And also if it's the RAM slot that is the problem, would it be okay if i put it in another RAM slot? (Not-recommended slot)

Thank you!
