I just moved into my Sisters house for a bit and the Dowload speed is super slow My old internet was DSL and got up to 2.8mb/s when downloading a game from steam. Here it will take 20 min to download a NVidia Driver which is probably only 200 Mb oh it is a se567 gigaset router. Can anyone tell me how to get a faster connection??

More about : real slow speed

what is your sisters advertised internet speed?if she isnt getting near her advertised speed you would need to get in touch with her ip and have them troubleshoot the problem.bottom line is it will only be as fast as the plan she is on.if you are getting the advertised speeds the only way to speed it up is to pay for a faster plan.

It's slow because the service you are on at that house is offering you little bandwidth. You need to go to the providers website and purchase a faster data plan for your home.

You will need to ask your sister what she is currently on and paying for and upgrade it.

20 minutes to download a 200mb file is dial-up slow, can you do a http://www.speedtest.net/ ?

and just how would you know her advertised speed? the op hasnt told us that yet. it could just as easily be a problem with his connection.in the absence of real info here it is all just conjecture.

Exactly, that's why I want to know the speed test results and the actual data plan.

If it actually took 20 minutes to download a 200MB file, then there is a big connection issue for DSL.

I had a problem with extremely slow download speeds that I thought was being caused by Microsoft BITS being corrupt. I tried all the normal fixes for it, then discovered that my two routers decided to conflict with each other after a power loss. I shut both down, disconnected them from each other, then started my provider's router first. Then I plug in my second router and turn it on. Problem solved!
PS, I have the second router to provide wireless N service and to provide network storage via USB port. I believe there is way to cascade the router service, but they have normally worked well together this way so I don't bother with it.
