Team,

I have drawn blanks with Netgear tech support and the Netgear forum so this is a true challenge!

My setup is:
Windows 8 ISP:
Sky BB Service ADSL2+
Netgear D6300 Modem/Router

The problem is:

My main PC cannot connect directly to the router's admin either through wireless or wired to the Router using any browser: (IE, Firefox, Chrome) or will not connect to the outside world UNLESS I specify a public DNS. This gives me internet access but not access to the router's admin page. I can connect to the router's admin if I come in from outside using DYNDNS.

I am connected to the correct subnet (not "Guest")and have also tried via 5g. I loaded Netgenie which was able to read the stats from the router but when I tried to use it to log on, it wouldn't connect.

When IE fails to connect, I get the messages: "The DNS server isn't responding" and "Your computer is trying to use a DNS server that is incorrect or doesn't exist".

Other info and actions to date:

  • The router shows my pc in the "attached" list

I have used a static IP to see whether the router had a problem with my IP address

All other PCs on the network can access the router admin and are set for full DHCP

I have run the ipconfig dns flush command and emptied all caches (DNS and browsers)

I have re-set the router to factory defaults but still couldn't connect with the internet cable before loading any other data

I have deleted the wireless adapter and re-loaded the adapter software.

So, in short, it looks like there is something wrong in this particular PC but I am now stumped.

Sorry for the long question but I wanted to give the full picture!

Thanks

- Are you able to test the computer bypassing the router with a direct connection to the modem?
- So everything works A-OK when you use the DynDNS rather than the ISP's?
- When you are accessing the admin page, are you using something like 192.168.x.x or mymodemsetup.com?
- If you ping/traceroute the admin page from the main pc, what do the results look like?
- Shot in the dark, have you tried switching around the port configuration in the back? i.e. connecting a working PC into the slot the main PC is currently using and vice versa?

I am pretty lost beyond those, really weird situation you have. Is the router new or has the problem simply just started?
