Yesterday I bought all the necessary parts for building a pc. I was'nt planning on buying an antistatic strap because I thought I could just touch an unpainted part of the case however when I came home and opened it it turns out everything is painted. I also can't go buy an antistatic stap because I am about 30 minutes away from the store. Please help.

More about : touch unpainted part case

Yes, it should be an exposed, unpainted piece of metal. Painted metal won't conduct the static as great.

any metal surface that's connected to an electrical outlet will do. It's almost impossible to damage PC components through static discharge

Don't bother. Seriously. It's not necessary at all. Experimental analysis has repeatedly shown that you'd have to shoot a device with a taser or rub it all over a cat to damage it. Even then, the damage will come from a pissed off cat, not static discharge.

Just touch a nearby water-pipe, faucet, or electric appliance with a metal frame and build your PC. A wrist strap will only get in the way.
