you could switch down to a 7750 to save £15 or so and that would also be able to play minecraft with HD textures and shaders, but a 7770 Ghz edition would allow for HD texture packs and intense mod packs like the FTB modpack.

This fits your budget :

With 1GB of GDDR5, 8GB of DDR2 and a Q6600 I get 60+ FPS everywhere on Far render distance- always at 80FPS steady. Q6600's will be cheap now so you should be lucky.

Don't buy a CPU which is 5 years old. That makes no sense at all. You couldn't even find a motherboard for it.

OP, get an i3 system. Minecraft is a single core game and the i3 3220 is WAY better per core than the Athlon or fx-6300.

Way better per core, but also much more expensive. We're talking about $70 on the 750k vs $120 on the 3220.
