Hi. I had a new computer built and I put my old HDD in it. It also has an SSD. I want to reformat the HDD but it's not letting me. When I right click on it and press reformat it tells me something is using it and I need to close w.e it is. But I have no clue what is using it.

What drive is the OS running from?

You can't do it from Disk Management? What options does it show on Right Click?

I tried doing it from disk management but it won't let me. The format option is grayed out. My computer guy told me to first press delete volume and then the format volume option will light up but the delete volume option is also grayed out.

Windows is still installed on the HDD. But my PC boots from the SSD which also has windows on it.

There is an option "conver to dynamic disk" and there is also the option " Shrink Volume"

Also "change drive letter paths" and "mark partition as Active"

Pull the HDD out and mark it as slave. It seems like its blocking you because either the drive is constantly being accessed by windows on the SSD for some reason, or its marked as Master even though you are booting to the SSD; it is trying to protect itself. So just put the jumper to slave and you should be all set.
